Hey folks!

Juston Stens here. (Former drummer of Dr.Dog, current member of Generationals, Juston Stens & the Get Real Gang )

The Idea: Since August I have been recording my first full length record in the best way I could think of; by rolling my way across the USA on a 1972 Triumph motorcycle to visit friends and musicians in their homes and studios. I started out with the intention of a long and wild road trip documenting my musical collaborations with and celebrating such a great group of musicians. I know that there is so much going on in the music world right now and I am happy to share what we've created and feel that it is a really special album.

The Adventures: So far I have been to a birthday party, attended family dinners, 3 Mile Island at night, clay pigeon shooting, BBQ's, swimmin' pools & holes, traded my triumph for a Dad's Harley for an afternoon, Cajun festival, Halloween in New Orleans, a wedding in Iowa, Texas BBQ's, more swimmin' holes. I've had to pull over and fix my 40 year old bike on the side of the road too many times to count. I have ridden 5 hours across Tennessee in relentless rain, cruised down the Mississippi, run out of gas and a blown out headlight at night in the desert. I have pushed my bike for miles and I have been saved by guardian angels over and over again.

Challenge & Discovery: This trip has been one of the most wonderful and educational experiences of my musical life. Every stop has been too short but it has been so great to see old friends and to have had the chance to sit down and talk about life and music; to play and sing together and watch a song come to life and getting there is a wholly other experience. I have collaborated with some of the coolest people/musicians around. I have seen some pretty rad studios and had the chance to use some incredible gear.

Knowing what I was throwing myself into, and sometimes out of my comfort zone, this trip has shown me new ways to collaborate ( in a variety of different scenarios ). These sessions have pushed me to challenge my own range of thoughts, inspiration, creativity and musical capabilities. I feel that I will have come through and out the other side as a better songwriter and musician.

The Film: Having your every move followed and filmed can seem a little strange, and at times it is. After seeing Drew's footage ( Drew Stubbs/ documentourian ) of the changing landscapes as I drive North to South and then East to West, and all the while as the seasons changing from Summer to Fall to Winter, I am extremely excited to see what the final film will be like and have total confidence in Drew that it will be great.

We are almost finished. A few more sessions to go in Tucson, Santa Barbara and Oakland California and then the next fun part! Sitting down and looking and listening to what we have created and captured over the past 4 months. Drew and I will part ways. I will be mixing the album and he will be editing of the documentary.

The KICKER !!! This is where your help is needed. I would like to head down to Nashville, Tennessee to rent studio time and work with an engineer/producer to help me put the finishing touches on these songs and tie the whole thing together. I will use donations from the Kickstarter fund to help with these costs of studio time, mixing, mastering, manufacturing and distribution of the first run of CD's and albums.

James' guitar style is widely acknowledged to have been an influential guitar style for 100s of guitarists from the Sex Pistols to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Green Day. James was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame in 2010 along with the other members of the Stooges.

Record Release: Low Transit Industries vs The Sun & The Silver Anthology

The Sun & The Silver Anthology is a collection of recordings produced by a bunch of Melbourne and Geelong based songwriters and multi-instrumentalists between 1992-2005 culminating in the end of all projects so two of the main members Darren Smallman and Simon Baird could focus on their record label, Australian independent Low Transit Industries.

Darren Smallman was the main constant through out all the projects who has always had an extermely DIY method to bands he was in. Playing in Warped and Toad [featuring members of Bored!, Fridge & Tumbleweed] in his teens and self-releasing tapes at shows through to all sorts of merch he fell in love with the production of a band which followed him through his life and all the way through Low Transit Industries.

The anthology spans 20 years of self-released material and demos which will be released digitally via Darren’s imprint BATTLE and will include 5 releases with over 60 tracks handpicked and re-mastered with artwork by US artist Trish Grantham.

With LTI closed they have gone back to what started the label in the first place with the music of Thee Vinyl Creatures, The Sound Platform and The Wells Collective which makes up the now 5 part release collective, The Sun & The Silver Anthology.

Hi friends, adventurers, music fans and lovers:

This August I embarked on my most creative and ambitious project yet. I have been riding my motorcycle across the US visiting friends/musicians for a few days at a time to co-write and record one song at each stop using only the gear/instruments that are available, ultimately creating an album. I have been collaborating with some of my favorite song writers and musicians and meeting more along the way. I left Philadelphia with a batch of tunes in my head, but I have discovered new things at each step of the journey and continue to write new songs as I go.

I travel on my 1972 Triumph motorcycle and have been accompanied by a small documentary film crew led by Drew Stubbs to capture this writing/recording process as well as a rare American road trip.

This is more than just an album, it's an interesting journey and a sonic and visual documentation of an experiment in collaboration, including a network of talented musicians spanning the continent...

RAPSCALLIONS RELEASE THEIR DEBUT VIDEO FOR THEIR SINGLE AND UBISOFT “ROCKSMITH” GAME SONG, “CALIFORNIA BRAIN”

The accompanying video for “California Brain,” directed and edited by Matt Silver and produced by RapScallions bassist Chris Clemence, is hilarious and is sure to be a viral favourite. “The video pokes fun at ‘American Idol’ and is about the ‘California Dream’ of people coming to Hollywood to make it big,” Clemence explains. “RapScallions play all the roles in the video, and director Matt Silver and RapScallions’ album producer Wendy Starland make guest appearances.”

RapScallions released their debut self-titled EP on October 11, 2011. For such a young band, RapScallions has already enjoyed plenty of success. Says Clemence, “We were very lucky to have an all-star team working on our EP. We recorded it at Interscope studios in Santa Monica with producer Wendy Starland, who is credited with discovering and developing Lady Gaga. Chris Cheney from Interscope engineered. We had Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Shania Twain) mix our single ‘California Brain’ and Paul Lapinski (Ludacris, Alicia Keys) mixed the rest of the EP.”

“We've been very lucky to share the stage with Chris Cornell, Fishbone, English Beat, Wu Tang Clan, Mike Posner, and more,” Clemence says. “We recently licensed our latest single ‘California Brain’ to Ubisoft's newest video game, ‘Rocksmith.’ The game is similar to Guitar Hero, but uses real guitars instead of plastic controllers which just came out on Xbox and PS3 last month. We’re the only unsigned new band on it.”

Santa Cruz, CA punk rockers Stellar Corpses announce the release of their debut video “Vampire Kiss” (along with single) today from their soon to be released album Dead Stars Drive In (Santa Carla Records).

Halloween could not be more perfect for this video/single release. The video for “Vampire Kiss” is a wink and a nod to a certain cult classic movie that was shot in Santa Cruz. “Shooting a professional video was a new experience for us, so we didn't know what to expect,” Dusty continues. “We knew director Justin Janowitz was good, but we didn't know he was THAT good! Watching him pour himself into his work was truly inspirational. He is a real artist, fully present in every aspect of the project from casting to location scouting to set design to making sure each shot was perfect. He made it really easy for us to get into our roles as artists and entertainers. It being our first pro video, we were all pretty nervous, but Justin and his awesome crew helped us relax and deliver the best performance possible.”

The video also boasts cameos from producer Joe McGrath (Tiger Army, Offspring, Alkaline Trio, AFI, etc.), who produced Dead Stars Drive-In, and AFI’s Hunter Bergan, who sings backup vocals on the track. “Working with Hunter Burgan was amazing. He took the video to a deeper, darker level, which was perfect... way more than we expected. When I heard he was going to do a cameo, we thought he would just walk by in the background and then bail, but he didn't. He fully embraced his role and brought some serious intensity to the set.”

“Far South” is a very personal and emotional record. The songs are based on his own experiences of the turbulent last year, when he was seeking a new place in the world, and exploring his own soul for new domain of creativity and inspiration. “Far South” is an affectional concept album, extraordinarily melancholic and direct in conveying emotions. Oneiric melodies and vocals put the music in a place suspended between reality and dream, sometimes peaceful and sometimes disturbed; occasional intrusions of lively guitar, trumpets or marching drums shake you wide awake.

This album came into existence at home – some songs in Cracow, and some in Warsaw, where he lives today. All instrument tracks, except for brass (guest appearance of Kamil Szuszkiewicz), were recorded using simple but efficient recording methods. The album was produced in co-operation with Michał Kupicz (SWNY, ex Indigo Tree).

Philadelphia band The Berrys are readying the release of their new album “Fairmont Station.” The disc, produced by Rodney Whittenberg (The Winterlings) is truly a modern classic, packed full of good old urban folk music. A performance this summer at the 50th anniversary of The Philadelphia Folk Festival introduced their new album “Fairmont Station” to an enthusiastic audience.

Driving home songs with power and control, The Berrys sing to folk and folk rock audiences with a warm originality. Fronted by the daughter father team of Briana and Jefferson Berry, the band is held together with the precision musicianship of Billy Hyatt on Fender Bass and Bud Burroughs on mandolin (and just about any instrument you’d like to have him blow you away with). From the streets of her adopted hometown of Brooklyn to the French speaking roads of West Africa, there is an adventurer’s spirit in every Briana Berry show. Every Saturday night for a month, they announced the location through facebook on Friday afternoon and performed the “Street Music” mini album in its entirety. A contagious, layered and melodic outing, thematically, “Street Music” is wide ranging. In the words of front-man Sash Mishevski it is also “probably the turning point for me. The moment where OTSS finally earned a distinctive sound. The songs gave me the confidence to continue writing a darker blended, hypnotic rock tip to Pop Music”.

To launch “Street Music”, Only The Sea Slugs have announced that they will be touring the country in two phases. The national Street Music Tour – Part 1 will see the band tripping up and down the east coast throughout October in the traditional manner. The Street Music Tour - Part 2 will see them hit the road again through late November / early December, adding in places like Canberra & Newcastle (with the added possibility of some street shows thrown in).

FIERY BLUE New Release "Our Secret"

Long distance relationships are difficult to cultivate under the best of circumstances. So imagine the challenge faced by the members of Fiery Blue when they opted to collaborate without ever meeting face to face. Chemistry, synergy and all the other benefits of being in personal proximity might have fallen by the wayside, if instinct and intuition hadn’t taken over.

Fiery Blue first formed when San Diego-based songwriter Paul Marsteller surfed the internet in search of a vocalist who would complement the new songs that he was starting to put together with producer and multi-instrumentalist, Gabe Rhodes, of Austin. That’s when they chanced upon NYC-based singer/songwriter Simone Stevens. They were instantly enticed and emailed her to see if she was interested in a long distance collaboration. They have since gone on to do about 50 songs in the past year and a half, starting with their self-titled 2010 debut. “We have good chemistry, in spite of having done this without having ever really met,” Marsteller suggests.

Gabe is the son, producer and primary band member of acclaimed Texas country-folk artist Kimmie Rhodes, and an accomplished musician and producer in his own right. His credits include sessions recorded alongside Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Joe Ely, Ray Price, Waylon Jennings, Stephen Bruton, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and a host of others.

Rhodes works with veteran drummer Hunt Sales (Todd Rundgren, David Bowie, Iggy Pop) on most of the Fiery Blue tracks.

Fiery Blue has clearly taken a significant step forward on their sophomore set, titled Our Secret. It has an artsy, country, retro, rootsy feel, with most of the songs about the longing for enduring romantic love. The record is more countryesque than their debut record. That was the design. "Simone is a natural country singer, with all that charm and character in her voice,” Marsteller says. “I don’t think she even realizes just how good she is. And Gabe, well, it goes without saying, he's brilliant at this kind of thing. He not only produces, but he plays just about everything on the record".

With the exception of a sultry cover of the Beatles’ “I’ve Just Seen A Face” (featuring harmony vocals from Kimmie Rhodes), all the songs are Marsteller’s original compositions (including two he co-composed with Rhodes). The material sounds both timeless and familiar. Stevens’ singing on “Crystal Ball", “Slow Down”, "Wheels Up", and the title track brings to mind the elemental sensitivity of Emmylou Harris and the clear determination of Lucinda Williams. Rhodes’ shimmering production makes songs such as “Tears Are Blue”, "Little Red Shoes" and “Eventide” appear both atmospheric and engaging simultaneously. The album overall demonstrates all the makings of a classic.

How do they account for being so in sync, despite the distances between them? “All I know is that it just works," Marsteller offers. “I write the songs, Simone knows how to sing them and Gabe puts them in the right musical setting. We each have a part to play in the creative process. Maybe doing this long distance even helps, because it allows us to concentrate on our respective parts, without all the logistics and overtones of being in the same room together."

Stevens sums the relationship up succinctly. “I know I’m the shortest one,” she laughs. “And I also know Gabe and Paul are cool guys. And knowing that, what else really matters?”

Alice Peacock and musical collaborator Danny Myrick are back with a new record. This is Alice’s and Danny’s official release as the duo MYRICK / PEACOCK. The duo will also be embarking on a national tour to promote the record.

Alice Peacock’s first independent release Real Day earned national attention and received a “Top Ten Independent Artists of the Year” from Amazon.com; her follow-up album Alice Peacock featured the hit “Bliss”, a duet with John Mayer. Who I Am, her third recording, recalls the golden age of singer-songwriter pop. Her latest disc, Love Remains, celebrates faith and human connection with buoyant, outwardly focused lyrics, feel-good guitar hooks and heartland grooves. Australian-born singer/songwriter Emily O’Halloran is a poet, nomad, observer and a seeker of truth whose boundless, picturesque adventures and, most importantly, the myriad of people and places she’s encountered along the way, inevitably led to creating her own melancholy, gimlet-eyed, yet soulful brand of music. Her debut album “Morphine & Cupcakes,” is a throwback to when the LP was a musical journey not a collection of singles. The LA Weekly nails Emily’s sound; “O'Halloran persuasively evokes Cat Power's lazy, hazy soul.”

Emily left home at the age of 14, where she had lived an “unconventional, yet idyllic, upbringing” on a hippie commune, with a childhood filled with music, bush dancing and playing alongside the community band “The Diddly-Dit Band”. O’Halloran then began her adventure hitchhiking across the continent, from the colorful Northern capital of Darwin, to the desolate island of Tasmania. O’Halloran’s travels eventually brought her to New York City, where she remained for 2 1/2 years, reciting her poetry in coffee houses in Greenwich Village, performing inside subway stations, outside the famed Chelsea Hotel, and other mainstays of a quintessentially Bohemian lifestyle.

A twist of fate and a rough demo brought O’Halloran together with veteran record producer Mark Howard, jump-starting a partnership when their first track together led to the completion of the album. Works created in such disparate locales as living rooms, Airstreams, tree houses, and high-end studios, from Los Angeles to Jamaica. The end result, “Morphine & Cupcakes” features such world-renowned musicians as Daryl Johnson (Bob Dylan, Daniel Lanois, Emmy-Lou Harris), Don Heffington (Bob Dylan, Doug Pettibone (Lucinda Williams) and Peter Atanasoff (Rickie Lee Jones).

O’Halloran counts among her influences many of Mark Howard’s legendary collaborators, including Dylan (whose song “Billy” she has covered), Lucinda Williams, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. O’Halloran’s world is one of desert landscapes, night drivers, truckers, whores, endless highways, hitchhikers, junkies and ramblers. Her debut album “Morphine and Cupcakes” is a doped-up serenade for the Bonnie’s, the Clyde’s, the lovers and the thieves. It is desert music, well past midnight in an old pick-up truck where you don’t know where the ground ends and the stars appear…

Emily will be celebrating the release of “Morphine & Cupcakes” on September 30th at Room 5 in LA.

LA-based alt-rockers VENREZ announce the release of their debut album, Sell The Lie, on January 31, 2012, as well as the release of first single “Karma” in December and several Los Angeles local shows, having just gotten off a very successful tour in Europe.

Venrez is a true rock n’ roll band. Their music is dark and powerful, yet exhilarating. Venrez also consists of drummer Ed Davis, who is best known for being the touring drummer for Juliette Lewis and the Licks for three years; Jason Womack on guitar, who was also The Licks’ bassist for three and a half years; Alex Kane on guitar, formerly of Life Sex and Death (LSD), Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg, and is also the front man for Anti Product; and Michael Bradford on bass, a childhood friend of Womack’s and a monster on bass. Venrez is already well-known in Europe, and even in the former Soviet Union. And now it’s time to conquer the U.S., the band’s homeland, where it all began.

“Karma,” the first album cut, “is about an ex-partner of mine who screwed me over in business,” explains Venrez front man and visionary, Steven “Ven” Berez. “He almost put me out of business, but two years later he went out of business and I am doing better than ever,” Ven explains. “’Sell The Lie,’ the title track, is about the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. All for oil, and the wrong reasons.” My Only Light” is based on a letter I read written by Union General Joshua Chamberlain during the Civil War.”

Venrez’s live show is definitely their strong suit. “It’s a sexy, in your face big rock experience. Something that may seem like you have heard before, then one realizes you really haven’t. Ven loves to play songs he’s written in front of an audience…the bigger, the better. “It is surreal actually. So many times I cannot believe I am on stage singing songs I wrote. But it works well for me as the lyrics come from deep inside and are lessons learned that I can feel and touch.”

The wait is almost over. Finally, it can be released that the highly-anticipated album by all-star band Fear & the Nervous System (FATNS), the brainchild of James “Munky” Shaffer (KoRn), and also featuring Zac Baird (KoRn), Billy Gould (Faith No More), Brooks Wackerman (Bad Religion), Steve Krolikowski (Repeater) and Leopold Ross will be out digitally on October 25, 2011. The album was produced by Jim Monti and Leo Ross. The track “Choking Victim” from the album, was leaked and has been all over the Internet, garnering stellar reviews from both press and fans alike and is available as a free download from here.

Fear & the Nervous System was an idea Shaffer had while on a long break after the release of KoRn’s Untitled album. He had the extremely cool epiphany of putting together a “super group,” comprised of top class musicians he admires and had become friends with. “I had been sitting at home for too long of a time,” Shaffer explains. “When you are a creative person, you can't sit still for very long!” Adds Bad Religion drummer Brooks Wackerman, “The inception of FATNS began through Munk. After I did the KoRn record, he asked if i would be interested in playing on this music project, which was un-named at the time. I’d had a great experience with him with KoRn, so I was eager to see what this was.”

“Zac Baird and I had worked on a few ideas while touring with KoRn,” Shaffer continues. “So, when we started to record, those song ideas were our jumping off point. But, 90% of the album was created on the spot, then recorded. We were lucky to get the people we wanted to become involved with the project. During the songwriting process, I wanted everyone to contribute equally, and feel open to try any and every idea they wanted. Then we would record it and see if it would work in any of the songs later. In the studio, it really began with Brooks laying down some amazing drum tracks for the rest of us to write and arrange the songs around. That is where most of the initial creative spark started. Also, I wanted to everyone to have a good time recording. There was no label (except myself) pushing any of us to do this or that, no schedules…we all wanted to have fun and write some interesting music.” Wackerman quips, “Besides hiring a band therapist, I remember it going well. All kidding aside, it was one of the best sessions I’ve had as a musician. I had a lot of freedom to experiment with. Most of these songs seemed to form in the studio, so we were able to go at it with different angles and maintain spontaneity throughout. Plus, the variety and quality of musicianship on this record added a lot to the sound.” According to Faith No More’s always-gracious bassist Billy Gould, “There are some stellar tracks on this album, and I have to say that James and the guys did a great job on it, and I tried to help where I could.”

The band name itself, Fear and the Nervous System, pretty much says it all. The music fits the name: powerful, in-your-face and just a bit unsettling…in a good way. “At the time of recording this album, I was, let's say, ‘feeling unusual,’” Shaffer laughs. “I was getting into lots of books, movies, and music. I had been listening to the album from the band Peeping Tom, thus I researched the 1959 movie ‘Peeping Tom,’ where the band had gotten their name. The writer and the director's stories were very inspiring to me. After obsessively viewing the film, I discovered that one of the characters (a psychiatrist) in the movie had written a series of books called ‘Fear and the Nervous System.’ In the movie, the character’s father would conduct disturbing and frightful experiments on his son, then film and document them.” "The first time I heard the name, I thought it represented the whole enchilada,” Brooks agrees.

So what else is in the cards for FATNS? “Besides world domination? Hopefully we can take this to the stage when our schedules allow it,” Wackerman says. “I think the fans would love to see FATNS live, and I know we’d love doing it.”

Since we last heard news from STELLAR CORPSES, there has been success after success for this up-and-coming band. They had a very successful mini tour, shot an amazing video for “Vampire Kiss,” the first cut to be released from their upcoming album Dead Stars Drive-In (Santa Carla Records), played with various punk rock luminaries, and cannot wait to release the album on January 24, 2012.

Stellar Corpses started out the summer by opening for punk rock legends TSOL, then Nekromantix, Voodoo Glow Skulls, and look forward to upcoming gigs supporting Tiger Army, Agent Orange and The Misfits. The Corpses also played a truly amazing LA show at The Viper Room, packing the house early on a Monday night, not usual for the notoriously jaded LA music crowd.

According to Stellar Corpses front man Dusty Grave, “Our shows with those amazing bands were great. They were so cool to us, and I think we made a lot of new fans. We also recently had the honor of headlining at 924 Gilman Street, the longest standing volunteer-operated punk rock venue, which was home to legendary bands like Rancid, Green Day, Operation Ivy, Tiger Army and of course AFI when they were first starting out.

“Our show at the Viper Room was a great success…thanks to our kick ass team and to Dayle Gloria (booker for The Viper Room). We had an outstanding turn out and we were invited back on October 30th to premiere our new (and first) music video!”

The video for “Vampire Kiss” is a wink and a nod to a certain cult classic movie that was shot in Santa Cruz. “Shooting a professional video was a new experience for us, so we didn't know what to expect,” Dusty continues. “We knew director Justin Janowitz was good, but we didn't know he was THAT good! Watching him pour himself into his work was truly inspirational. He is a real artist, fully present in every aspect of the project from casting to location scouting to set design to making sure each shot was perfect. He made it really easy for us to get into our roles as artists and entertainers. It being our first pro video, we were all pretty nervous, but Justin and his awesome crew helped us relax and deliver the best performance possible.”

The video also boasts cameos from producer Joe McGrath (Tiger Army, Offspring, Alkaline Trio, AFI, etc.), who produced Dead Stars Drive-In, and AFI’s Hunter Bergan, who sings backup vocals on the track. “Working with Hunter Burgan was amazing. He took the video to a deeper, darker level, which was perfect... way more than we expected. When I heard he was going to do a cameo, we thought he would just walk by in the background and then bail, but he didn't. He fully embraced his role and brought some serious intensity to the set.”

Coming up, Dusty reveals, “We get to open for The Misfits on Sep 29 at The Avalon in Santa Clara, CA. We're thrilled to open for one of the bands that has inspired us more than any other band. On October 29, we have the tremendous honor of sharing the stage with Tiger Army and Agent Orange for their 4th annual ‘Octoberflame.’”

“When Stellar Corpses was first getting started, we set a goal to follow in the footsteps of three bands: The Misfits, AFI and Tiger Army. Now it’s six years later, and we are working with all three bands. Life is good…it pays to follow your dreams.”

This week, Paper + Plastick Records is returning to where it started by releasing Landmines’ “Commerce and Marx” full-length on vinyl. Landmines released its debut, self-titled LP back in 2008 – the label’s first-ever release – and their new full-length is now available for purchase on wax.

Limited to 579 copies, “Commerce and Marx” is available on three variations: black, white and white with black streaks, to match the record’s cover art. “Commerce and Marx” can be streamed now at PastePunk.com. It is the follow-up to 2010's digital-only "Hell Is What You Make It" EP, which Landmines also released with Paper + Plastick.

Landmines, natives of Richmond, Va., play an aggressive, fast-paced brand of old-school hardcore. “Commerce and Marx” is a bluntly straightforward record; there are no frills, no gimmicks, and nothing that bears any notable semblance to most pop music trends. They are a potent punch to the face of the modern underground scene, and "Commerce and Marx" tips its hat to old Black Flag with short bursts of memorable fury. While their first record was produced with Brian McTernan, Landmines went a different route this go-round and decided to produce "Commerce and Marx" themselves. It was mixed by Stephen Egerton.

When Landmines released their self-titled debut in July of 2008, it marked more than a big step for the band – it was the beginning of Paper + Plastick. Just over three years later, there is an organic feel to the release of “Commerce and Marx” – a feeling of coming full circle.

The follow-up to their highly touted three-song demo and split 7-inch with Captain, We’re Sinking, Bearable finds the four friends in Timeshares honing their passionate and sincere punk rock. Boasting a dozen tracks that will immediately incite raised fists and shout alongs at live shows, Bearable includes re-recorded and re-worked versions the band’s original demos and a song off their split, reflecting how much the Downstate New York band has grown since forming two years ago. “Bearable is the record we wanted to make and the foot forward we wanted to put down,” says guitarist/vocalist Jon Hernandez. “Even the songs from the initial demo are now recorded after given the time to develop from a band who was learning to mold into what we've hoped to become. Though, that’s not to say we’re there yet at all.” Self recorded at the band’s own studio (where they have also recorded Spraynard, Sundials and more), Natoli adds “We were able to spend extra time on anything we thought needed it. We didn’t want to compromise anything to preserve our voices so being able to rest was a big help. In the end, we were happy with everything we recorded, which may not have happened if we were racing the clock.”

Dripping with gruff, shout-along verses, gang-vocal choruses and four-part harmonies, it is the honest and sincere songwriting that really stands out on Bearable. Filled with true to heart songs about the highs and lows, ups and downs the band members have faced over the last two years, friendships and relationships, and feelings of isolation, Timeshares tell it like it is and don’t offer filtered, unrealistic optimism on their full-length debut.

Timeshares will be announcing Fall tour dates shortly, which includes a stop at the annual Fest in Gainesville, FL and has shared the stage with Lemuria, Bridge & Tunnel, Iron Chic, The Menzingers, among many others. PAPER + PLASTICK ANNOUNCES LIMITED DOPAMINES/DEAR LANDLORD SPLIT 7”, STREAMING AT THEPUNKSITE

Paper + Plastick Records has announced the release of a split 7” from Minnesota’s Dear Landlord and Ohio’s The Dopamines. The 7” can be bought in the Paper + Plastick webstore, and will be available exclusively through the webstore and from the bands on tour. The four-song 7" can be streamed thepunksite.com.

Due to a manufacturing error where the vinyl is mislabeled, the label has decided to sell the 7”s to fans for a minimal $2.50, the price it costs to make each piece. The split is available in three different variations – black/gray/blue split in thirds, blue with gray haze and light blue with gray dust – and is limited to just over 1,000 copies total.

Both bands have two songs each on the split, playing similar brands of old-school, 90s-style pop-punk. The Dopamines’ half comes after their 2010 full-length, Expect the Worst, which gained the band a stronger following on the basis of songs like "Public Domain." The split precedes a series of releases planned for the coming year stemming from recordings the band did in March with Matt Yonker of The Queers and Teen Idols. Dear Landlord is still riding the momentum of 2009’s acclaimed Dream Homes (stream) and their half of this release, produced by Matt Allison (The Menzingers, Alkaline Trio, We Are The Union), has been highly anticipated from fans.

The split will be streaming at thepunksite.com for the entire week. Dear Landlord and The Dopamines will both continue touring in 2011 and will both be playing The Fest 10 in Gainesville in late October.

Ardent's Studio C control room is undergoing an acoustic redesign and replacing its vintage Neve V console with a state-of-the-art 5.1 surround capable Solid State Logic Duality. The studio's founding father, John Fry, has a reputation for keeping his studios cutting edge while still maintaining a healthy appreciation of those things vintage. Rest assured, the vintage mic pres and eqs from the Neve V console will see a new life in the near future as a sidecar to compliment the new Duality.

LAUNCH OF THE ROYAL MONACO BLOG AND RECORDING SESSIONS

It's been a long time coming, but this weekend our producer Paul K. Kolderie blows into town from Boston and we begin 3 days of pre-production. Then on Monday morning we start bright and early at Kingsize Soundesign Studios in lovely Glassell Park, wedged between Glendale and Eagle Rock, where we'll be tracking for the next 5 days. (That reminds me of a awesome scene in Days of Thunder when car owner Randy Quaid is talking to crew chief Robert Duvall. Quaid is looking for a new driver and says, "Harry, where's your driver from?" and Duvall says, "Eagle Rock." Quaid says, "Is that up around Wilkesboro?" Duvall says, "No, Glendale, California." and the music goes BOOM and Quaid says, "HE'S A YANKEE!?"

So, once upon a time there was a radio station here in LA, called Indie 103.1. They were by some estimates the best rock radio station in the country. So, naturally they changed format and are now called El Gato 103.1 and playing Regional Mexican music. You can't fight progress. The Dead Leaves Set To Release Debut "Cities On The Sea" In November

The Dead Leaves are a band from Melbourne, Australia. While initially formed in 2009 to play and record lead-vocalist Matt Joe Gow’s solo work, The Dead Leaves (featuring guitarist Andrew Pollock, bassist Cameron Grindrod and drummer Joel Witenberg) have evolved far beyond a solo artist’s backing band. In January 2011, the band began recording their debut album at BJB Studios in Sydney, Australia, with producers Scott Horscroft (The Presets, Birds of Tokyo, The Panics) and Eric J Dubowsky (Art vs Science, Weezer). The album is due for release in November 2011.

The twelve songs were recorded by the band during the late spring of 2010 (flip seasons for you Northern Hemisphere folks). The band is now signed to Liberation Records, home to The Temper Trap and Little Red. Guest vocalists on the album include Gin Wigmore (‘Album of the Year’ New Zealand Music Awards 2010) on “This Living” and guest vocalist Emma Louise on “Changing”. Emma is an exciting up-and-coming artist whose new EP “Insomnia” was produced by Mark Myers of The Middle East.

The Dead Leaves’ music is a raw and passionate collision of the dark brooding sonics of Joy Division and Grizzly Bear, meeting up with the dank and roomy basement sound of Band Of Horses and Tom Petty – all culminating on a rainy Saturday afternoon with the buzz and haze of several bottles of red wine.

Hailing from the southern punk Mecca that has spawned scene staple bands Less Than Jake, Hot Water Music, and Against Me!, indie labels No Idea Records and Paper + Plastick Records, as well as annual punk festival The Fest, Gainesville has helped shape the band’s blend of bluegrass, folk and punk. “We are heavily influenced by the city we come from,” says banjo player/vocalist Karl Seltzer. “We all are huge fans of the punk scene and love a lot of the music that is coming out of it. I think we take little bits of influence from it here and there between our songwriting and the energy we try to give off at a live show as well.” Songs such as the hoedown inducing album opener “For What It’s Worth" (which features Jon Gaunt of Chuck Ragan’s band on fiddle), and “Second Favorite Bed” stress the band’s ability to blend roots music with the energy of punk, while the honest “I Swear” showcases the band’s ability to write a catchy traditional bluegrass song, swearing to be “a better brother, son or a friend” while on the road.

Recorded between tours from February until June 2011 in Gainesville at Medusa Productions, Where Were We was mixed and mastered by Stephen Egerton (of Descendent and ALL). Paper + Plastick Records are pleased to announce that everyone can now order Have Nots’ sophomore full-length record, “PROUD,” in the Paper + Plastick webstore. The Boston natives released “Proud” on CD and digital formats in early May, and fans can now add the gatefold jacket vinyl version to their collection in one of three unique color variations – clear, brick or midnight khaki green.

The LP comes with a few options, including a three-pack, which features all three variations at a discount, and a bundle option that includes the both the new LP and the band’s debut, “Serf City USA,” on vinyl. Bubbling up from the underground of the Los Angeles music scene with an indelible Nashville-influenced sound, indie roots duo honeyhoney have announced that veteran label Lost Highway will release their new full-length album, Billy Jack. Produced primarily by Raymond Richards (Local Natives) and set to drop October 24th on honeyhoney Records/Lost Highway through Fontana Distribution, Billy Jack finds twenty-something musicians Suzanne Santo and Ben Jaffe threading sweet melodies with big acoustic guitar sounds, percussive banjos and countrified fiddles.

honeyhoney's sexually tinged, bruised knee honeysuckle take on roots music must be heard to be understood, and Billy Jack pumps with the sound of hearts on fire, and real instruments played by people who really mean it. The album's first single, "Turn That Finger Around," is a steady-grooving story detailing hard times with a memorable hook and some Southern twang. A slow burn seethes beneath the gospel-flavored tale of romantic doubt, "Don't Know How (Slow Mover)," while strings baste the mourning ballad "Angel of Death" and "Thin Line" explores dissatisfaction, good times and loss through the blues. From the dark smolder of "Glad I Done What I Did" and stark piano of "LA River," to the euphoric romp of "Let's Get Wrecked"--honeyhoney's music embraces the sound of what it means to be alive.

Meandering through unique paths in life, Suzanne Santo and Ben Jaffe converged in Los Angeles and immediately found a powerful shared chemistry. It was when the hauntingly voiced Santo sang the songs Jaffe was writing for his band at the time that they knew they had something. Encouraged by a serendipitous relationship with French record executive Bertrand Lamblot, the pair entered a radio contest and won $25,000 to make a record. "Little Toy Gun," their song from a rare early release, found life as a cult favorite, with bands in several states embracing the song in multiple YouTube cover versions. Evoking California's hippie Dust Bowl fringe, honeyhoney's music contains a strong pull of Woody Guthrie-esque folk, vintage Buffalo Springfield, glints of Gram Parsons and bits of Bonnie Raitt's early blues, along with Rickie Lee Jones reality and Bakersfield Saturday nights. Not country, not folk, not rock, it is a hybrid that defies exact definition.

To support the release of Billy Jack, the pair will take their full band on the road for a 41-date nationwide "Ten Buck Tour", a co-headlining trek with indie folk singer-songwriter Joshua James that begins on September 21st--with all tickets priced at $10 or less (service charge and walk-ups not included). DANIEL GOODMAN TO RELEASE NEW RECORD PRODUCED BY ANTON FIER

In the deep sonorous vibrations of Daniel Goodman’s voice and soul-stirring guitar strums lies a solid strain of hope. His American folk roots are clearly reflected in the reality of his powerful lyrics, words like salves that seek to offer an antidote to modern societies’ ills via a nostalgic nod to time lost in the haze of yesterday.

Goodman was born in Brooklyn before it was a destination, raised in New Jersey to parents whose environmental consciousness led them to join Pete Seeger’s Clearwater Sloop club in the 1970s, a decision that led to Goodman’s exposure to folk music and subsequent love of the music genre. It is that heritage combined with the faint underpinnings of the experimental jazz he cottoned to in high school and explored further at the Berklee School of Music that shine through Goodman’s new album, Cold Wind.

The album courses with strains of Goodman’s muses, Bob Dylan and Nick Drake, and the strong influence of 60s/70s British folk artists including Bert Jansch (Pentangle) and Anne Briggs as well as American folk idol Jackson C. Frank.

Goodman, a literal treasure seeker, travels far and wide for ancient rugs that reflect the past and can be sold to someone to place underfoot for their own beautiful future, just like his music.

“Antiques dealers travel from town to town like old time carnies, from the big flea markets of New England and New York State to the swap meets of the West, offering things up to hungry desperate people looking through scores of junk with the hope of uncovering a lost gem,” Goodman says.

The perpetual hopefulness of those hunters of rare objects is woven through Cold Wind’s hypnotic rhythms, through its beats--impossible not to move along to as Goodman sings the universal tales of the people, places and things on which that hope might be pinned.

Joined by legendary producer & drummer Anton Fier (Golden Palominos,) Cold Wind was born through a collaboration with Adam Levy (Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman) and jazz bassist Arthur Kell (Spirits Rebellious Quintet’s Thomas Chapin, Claire Daly, Art Baron.) Artists Tony Scherr, Jon Cowherd and Larry Saltzman (Paul Simon), also join Goodman as he spins yarns of time spent rambling on the road through the U.S. and Europe. Initial tracks, which Goodman himself acknowledges carry a certain “ferociousness and cruelty,” unveil a torrent of fearless impassioned pleas to pay attention to the world around, as with the title track, “Cold Wind,” which explicates simply and perfectly the gulf oil spill with harsh lyrics including, “You quantify and call the role, you drill the sea so plug the hole.”

In “Pine Ridge,” an acoustic coupling that combines the haunting humming guitars of Goodman and Levy, the ruthlessness of Native American history is set out in stirring rhymes such as “You sell me forgiveness, I pay by the day, and rob me of peace, in the nights so I pray…”

“There is a lot of good in the world, but I don’t want to live in the ‘theater of optimism,’” Goodman says with great sincerity shining in his sympathetic green eyes, imbuing the title of his second track where realism reaches through the sliding guitar scales to say with assurance as strong as Goodman’s own sound, “you don’t pay at the door but in the end you pay for sure.” There is resolution, though, in the later tracks such as “True Love’s Eyes,” and “The Golden Road” as Goodman’s deeply pulsating baritone leads us straight to believing there is resolution, also, in life. Such affirmation is what makes Goodman an artist and Cold Wind an album worth paying for, in the end.

Cold Wind will be released officially on Thursday, October 6 with a kick-off release party at The Living Room, 154 Ludlow Street in Manhattan.

If the MC5 were Detroit’s political spokesmen for the disenchanted youth of the 1960s, then The Stooges were the loutish kids, heckling from the back of the room. While conventional wisdom says they could barely play their instruments, the Stooges left an indelible mark on the world of punk rock, and the band’s initial three albums—The Stooges, Fun House and Raw Power—are bona fide classics. In THE STOOGES: HEAD ON author Brett Callwood treats the band’s story not just as an early chapter in the career of its famous front man, Iggy Pop, but from the Stooges’ beginnings at the end of the 1960s, to its end in the early 1970s, and to its reunion in 2003 through the present.

“Writing a Stooges biography was a no-brainer for me,” Callwood states. “My first book is about the MC5 and in researching that while still living in London, I had traveled to Detroit / Ann Arbor and fallen in love with the whole area and its music. I had made many friends and established many contacts that were and are associated with both the MC5 and the Stooges, so that made the process easier to get started. Also, when I wrote this book there wasn't a decent Stooges book on the shelves. There are a lot of Iggy books out there, but mine is the first full Stooges biography.”

In compiling this exhaustive account of the band’s history, Callwood interviewed all of the central and sometimes Stooges members, including Iggy Pop, Ron and Scott Asheton, James Williamson, Mike Watt, Steve Mackay, and Scott Thurston, and largely lets the band tell its own story in numerous long quotes. Callwood details the band’s genesis as teenage friends in Ann Arbor, their time living together in their legendary party houses in the 1960s, and the recording of the three original Stooges albums. He examines the addition of James Williamson to the band on Raw Power and how it changed the band’s sound and dynamic, along with the band’s fateful meeting with David Bowie on its first British tour.

As Iggy broke out as a solo artist during the 1970s and 1980s, Callwood charts the Asheton brothers’ post-Stooges experiences, with Ron’s turns in The New Order, Destroy All Monsters, and Dark Carnival, and Scott Asheton’s time with the Farleys and Sonic’s Rendezvous Band. He also provides an overview of Iggy’s solo career, the seeds of a reunion that were planted with a collaboration on Iggy’s Skull Ring album, and the eventual reformation of the band and the recording of their fourth album, The Weirdness, in 2007.

Originally published in the U.K. in 2008, The Stooges: Head On has been revised to expand on the original story and also to consider Ron Asheton’s untimely death in 2009 and his musical legacy, the band’s fate without Ron, and the Stooges’ long-overdue introduction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

“Scott didn't want to talk at all for the first edition… He rarely does interviews,” said Callwood. “However, after his brother passed away and I was writing for this American edition, he talked to me and really opened up. It was a very moving, humbling experience.”

Alice Peacock’s first independent release Real Day earned national attention and received a “Top Ten Independent Artists of the Year” from Amazon.com; her follow-up album Alice Peacock featured the hit “Bliss”, a duet with John Mayer. Who I Am, her third recording, recalls the golden age of singer-songwriter pop. Her latest disc, Love Remains, celebrates faith and human connection with buoyant, outwardly focused lyrics, feel-good guitar hooks and heartland grooves. Many of Peacock’s songs have appeared in feature films and TV shows including Because of Winn Dixie, Men In Trees, The Ghost Whisperer, Pepper Dennis, What I Like About You, Dawson’s Creek and Smallville; feature films Because of Winn Dixie and Win A Date With Ted Hamilton and TV commercials such as Hershey’s product launch of Bliss chocolate.

As most middle school bands dissolve during their pubescent years, the three friends of Reverse The Curse have grown closer since forming in sixth grade. After recording their debut EP, Paths, the day that the band members graduated high school, they toured incessantly. Nearly two years after releasing Paths, Hither & Yon finds the band honing their post-hardcore chops, exploring new sounds, and emerging from their teenage years tighter than ever. Funeral Club Set To Release New Album "In The Fire"

Funeral Club was founded by husband and wife, Joseph and Jenny Andreotti in 2006. The Andreotti’s were inspired to begin Funeral Club by their grandparent’s journey from Oklahoma to Bakersfield, California during the great Dust Bowl migration, 1960s spaghetti westerns, David Lynch soundtracks, and the late 70s punk movement.

In the spring of 2011 Funeral Club recorded their third full-length, In the Fire. The record was produced by Raymond Richards (Local Natives, Parson Redheads) and mastered by Kramer (Damon & Naomi, Low). In The Fire was influenced by the idea of paying homage to experimental film makers Maya Deren and David Lynch, film composer Ennio Morricone, and to Pulp’s wonderfully sleazy film-noir inspired This is Hardcore.

The record was self-released as were all past releases under the names Funeral Club & The Grizzly Owls, The Year of the Bloody Sevens LP (2010), By Night On My Bed LP (2007), The People Have All Gone EP (2009), and I Am A Shootist EP (2009). In 2008 RCRD LBL released the single, Whiskey & Clyde.

Funeral Club have continued to play mostly in the Echo Park/Silverlake area in Los Angeles at Spaceland, The Echo, Echo Curio, The Silverlake Lounge, and The Echo Park Film Center, performing with Damon & Naomi, A Hawk & A Hacksaw, The Wooden Birds, and others.

Their releases have received critical acclaim from such media outlets as Pop Matters, Lost At Sea, Stranded In Stereo, Art Rocker, God Is In The TV, Unpeeled, Web In Front, Buzz Bands LA, EarFarm, as well as being voted Los Angeles band of the month at Deli Magazine.

Hot off a UK/European tour, Bean-town punks HAVE NOTS are excited to announce a US tour supporting hometown friends Big D and the Kids Table this Fall. Kicking off in Buffalo, NY on September 20, the six-week tour winds down in Sayreville, NJ at Starland Ballroom on November 6, and includes shows in Chicago, Las Vegas, Orlando, Boston, and Brooklyn, NY.
